Pauline Baumann, ND – President
A licensed naturopathic physician for over twenty years, Dr. Baumann has worked in natural childbirth, family medicine, transpersonal counseling and process work. She developed and taught training courses in energy medicine in the US, Canada, Germany and Switzerland. Former CEO and co-owner of Gemisphere, she pioneered the use of therapeutic gemstones in acupuncture and energy medicine. Pauline has been instrumental in implementing organizational turnaround in various organizations. Her diverse roles at National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) included Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, over 6 years of board service, and Board of Directors Chair. She participated in developing the Naturopathic Medical Research Agenda for the NIH and the WHO Consultation on Phytotherapy in Milan. Her love for whole systems design led her to develop a permaculture farm and grass-fed cattle ranch in Southern, Oregon. Her early involvement as a consultant to NDI was fueled by her passion for global health and social equity.
Tania Neubauer, ND - Treasurer/Secretary
Dr. Tania Neubauer began her healthcare training as an herbalist in the San Francisco Bay Area. From 1997-2001, she volunteered at the Berkeley Free Clinic, serving as a community health worker and peer counselor. She eventually served as Medical Coordinator, managing a medical clinic focusing on homeless and underserved populations. In 2000, she graduated magna cum laude in Biology from San Francisco State University. She is also a certified massage therapist. In 2001, she trained as a Clinical Herbalist with Michael Moore at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine in Arizona. That year she also worked as a medic in a demonstration against the Free Trade Area of the Americas. In 2003, as a student at NCNM, she took a leave of absence to work in Estelí, Nicaragua, learning Spanish and working with local natural medicine foundations. Upon her return to NCNM, she coordinated the first student chapter of NDI. She also preceptored at La Clinica de Guadalupe, a Latino community clinic in Salem, Oregon, which utilizes naturopathic medicine. She graduated NCNM with Honors in 2006. After graduation, she led a student medical brigade to Nicaragua. She was thrilled and honored to work in the hospital in Ometepe, Nicaragua with NDI, and to now sit on the NDI board. Heather Zwickey, PhD
Dr. Heather Zwickey, Dean of Research at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), director of Helfgott Research Institute, and Associate Professor of Immunology, trained at the world renowned National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver. She received a Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Zwickey went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. At NCNM, she applies her immunology expertise to natural medicine. Dr. Zwickey’s attraction to NDI stems from her passion for sustainable global health. Her interest in health disparities led her to India, Nepal, Uganda, and Mexico. Dr. Zwickey hopes to see permanent natural medicine services and more medical schools established in countries with low economic resources. At Helfgott Research Institute, Dr. Zwickey is establishing the infrastructure for a Center of Excellence in Global Health Research. In addition to working with clinicians of NDI to collect clinical outcomes , Dr. Zwickey collaborates with researchers at Pontificia Universidade Catolica Do Rio Grange Do Sol in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Jill Stansbury, ND
Dr. Jill Stansbury is the Chair of the Botanical Medicine Department at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon and has maintained a clinical practice for 20 years. A member of the American Herbalists Guild and a nationally recognized author and speaker, Dr. Stansbury is considered an expert in the research and clinical use of herbal medicines. She has traveled widely visiting tribal people of the world, slowly learning where her skills might be of use now that her 2 children are grown. Settling on Peru, Dr. Stansbury is presently developing health, herbal medicine, and permaculture projects in Cusco.
Julie Chinnock, ND, MPH
Dr. Julie Anne Chinnock is a naturopathic physician working in homeless health care in Portland, OR. She has a masters degree in public health and a background in international medical ethnobotany. Dr. Chinnock is dedicated to reducing social and health disparities and improving access to healthcare worldwide.
Liz Kaltman, MPH
Liz Kaltman began doing public health work in Latin America in 1987, first in Paraguay and later in Chile. She went on to work as a communicable disease epidemiologist for city and state health departments in the United States. Liz has extensive experience in community health, HIV/AIDS and infectious disease research. She is currently a fourth year naturopathic medical student at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Liz is committed to improving international public health conditions through natural medicine.
